You’re over there asking yourself, what exactly is DecryptedGamer? How did the name come about, who does the graphics and so on. This page is hopefully going to answer those questions and more.
So let’s start off with how did the name DecryptedGamer come about? Oddly, the name started out as something for a Destiny 2 clan, which I played a lot of a couple of years back. The original name happened to be The Decrypted Guardians, or at the time, TDG for short.
The word Decrypted came from an in-game situation where when you got engrams, you often went to the Cryptarch within The Tower of Destiny and you would “decrypt” your engrams to get armor or weapons.
The word Guardians came from what Bungie calls your character within the game of Destiny, a guardian. I put the two together and that’s how the name The Decrypted Guardians was first formed.
Fast forward about 6 months or so, and I decided I wanted to start a gaming account on Instagram where I could separate my gaming stuff from my personal stuff on my personal Instagram account. To make things simple, I decided to keep TDG as the initials and came up with the name The Decrypted Gamer.
Then once I approached my graphics guy, Jared, who had done a couple of things for me for The Decrypted Guardians, we decided a slight branding change would be best if this was something I was going to proceed with. Discussions took place and we agreed that the word “the” in the name just didn’t need to be there, and that DecryptedGamer, or DG for short, would be best. That has now been a year or so since that was decided and the brand has grown from there.
When I decided to get back into streaming on Twitch, then eventually go back to Mixer, I felt it was only appropriate to run with the brand name instead of using my real name like I had been doing previously. The name was changed across all platforms and DecryptedGamer was now my online presence as much as possible.
With that out of the way, I’m sure you’re now asking yourself, who is DecryptedGamer and what’s he all about? Well, let me tell you that little story as well I suppose.
My name is Cliff, also known as DecryptedGamer. I am a life long player of video games of all kinds. Starting back in the late 1970’s when there was just the original Pong. I have played pretty much every console that has been released since then including all of the old school ones such as the Atari 2600, ColecoVision and many others. The Commodore 64 was what really changed my outlook on video games when I discovered Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, which is my favorite game of all time. I love anything and everything tech related and happen to do tech reviews from time to time as well.
To enhance on that a bit, I’ve been online since the middle 1980’s when BBS’s(Bulletin Board Systems) were a thing and the name I used back then was Hawkwind. I kept that name up until around 2011 – 2012. I still use it in some places, but I then decided to use my real name in various, if not most, places around the internet. I did that for several reasons, but mainly so people would more easily know who I was.
The name Hawkwind came from an NPC within the game of Ultimate IV: Quest Of The Avatar, Hawkwind: The Seer Of Souls, who played a very important role in the game. I was quickly drawn to the name from the second I saw it and used it for a very long time. It’s still in use in some places and the Seer Of Souls part is a domain name I still own to this day.
Online now, my presence is mostly known as DecryptedGamer as I feel it’s important to keep that brand name everywhere I possibly can to make it easier for people to find me within the games I play or social media networks that I prefer to use.
That describes the story of DecryptedGamer, who he is and how the name all came about over the course of the last several years. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below and I will certainly respond as quickly as possible.
